Here's Why We Think PepsiCo (NASDAQ:PEP) Might Deserve Your Attention Today
For beginners, it can seem like a good idea (and an exciting prospect) to buy a company that tells a good story to investors, even if it currently lacks a track record of revenue and profit. Sometimes these stories can cloud the minds of investors, leading them to invest with their emotions rather than on the merit of good company fundamentals. Loss making companies can act like a sponge for capital - so investors should be cautious that they're not throwing good money after bad.
So if this idea of high risk and high reward doesn't suit, you might be more interested in profitable, growing companies, like PepsiCo (NASDAQ:PEP). Now this is not to say that the company presents the best investment opportunity around, but profitability is a key component to success in business.

PepsiCo's Earnings Per Share Are Growing
If a company can keep growing earnings per share (EPS) long enough, its share price should eventually follow. That makes EPS growth an attractive quality for any company. PepsiCo managed to grow EPS by 5.3% per year, over three years. That might not be particularly high growth, but it does show that per-share earnings are moving steadily in the right direction.
Careful consideration of revenue growth and earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) margins can help inform a view on the sustainability of the recent profit growth. While we note PepsiCo achieved similar EBIT margins to last year, revenue grew by a solid 2.2% to US$92b. That's progress.

Of course the knack is to find stocks that have their best days in the future, not in the past. You could base your opinion on past performance, of course, but you may also want to check this interactive graph of professional analyst EPS forecasts for PepsiCo.
Are PepsiCo Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?
We would not expect to see insiders owning a large percentage of a US$235b company like PepsiCo. But thanks to their investment in the company, it's pleasing to see that there are still incentives to align their actions with the shareholders. We note that their impressive stake in the company is worth US$318m. We note that this amounts to 0.1% of the company, which may be small owing to the sheer size of PepsiCo but it's still worth mentioning. This should still be a great incentive for management to maximise shareholder value.
Should You Add PepsiCo To Your Watchlist?
One positive for PepsiCo is that it is growing EPS. That's nice to see. If that's not enough on its own, there is also the rather notable levels of insider ownership. The combination definitely favoured by investors so consider keeping the company on a watchlist. Even so, be aware that PepsiCo is showing 2 warning signs in our investment analysis , you should know about...
