Value Line (NASDAQ:VALU) Has Announced That It Will Be Increasing Its Dividend To $0.30
Value Line, Inc. (NASDAQ:VALU) will increase its dividend on the 10th of May to $0.30, which is 7.1% higher than last year's payment from the same period of $0.28. This will take the dividend yield to an attractive 2.9%, providing a nice boost to shareholder returns.

Value Line's Earnings Easily Cover The Distributions
Impressive dividend yields are good, but this doesn't matter much if the payments can't be sustained. Based on the last payment, Value Line was quite comfortably earning enough to cover the dividend. This indicates that a lot of the earnings are being reinvested into the business, with the aim of fueling growth.
Over the next year, EPS could expand by 12.7% if recent trends continue. If the dividend continues along recent trends, we estimate the payout ratio will be 55%, which is in the range that makes us comfortable with the sustainability of the dividend.
Value Line Has A Solid Track Record
The company has an extended history of paying stable dividends. Since 2014, the annual payment back then was $0.60, compared to the most recent full-year payment of $1.12. This means that it has been growing its distributions at 6.4% per annum over that time. The dividend has been growing very nicely for a number of years, and has given its shareholders some nice income in their portfolios.
The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow
The company's investors will be pleased to have been receiving dividend income for some time. Value Line has impressed us by growing EPS at 13% per year over the past five years. Shareholders are getting plenty of the earnings returned to them, which combined with strong growth makes this quite appealing.
Value Line Looks Like A Great Dividend Stock
Overall, we think this could be an attractive income stock, and it is only getting better by paying a higher dividend this year. Earnings are easily covering distributions, and the company is generating plenty of cash. All of these factors considered, we think this has solid potential as a dividend stock.
It's important to note that companies having a consistent dividend policy will generate greater investor confidence than those having an erratic one. At the same time, there are other factors our readers should be conscious of before pouring capital into a stock.
