This Insider Has Just Sold Shares In Gates Industrial

Some Gates Industrial Corporation plc (NYSE:GTES) shareholders may be a little concerned to see that the Executive VP & CFO, L. Mallard, recently sold a substantial US$505k worth of stock at a price of US$22.77 per share. That sale reduced their total holding by 11% which is hardly insignificant, but far from the worst we've seen.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Gates Industrial

The Independent Director Fredrik Eliasson made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$1.2m worth of shares at a price of US$19.56 each. Although we like to see insider buying, we note that this large purchase was at significantly below the recent price of US$22.07. Because the shares were purchased at a lower price, this particular buy doesn't tell us much about how insiders feel about the current share price.

I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.
