One Pioneer Power Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ:PPSI) Analyst Just Made A Major Cut To Next Year's Estimates
Today is shaping up negative for Pioneer Power Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ:PPSI) shareholders, with the covering analyst delivering a substantial negative revision to this year's forecasts. Both revenue and earnings per share (EPS) estimates were cut sharply as the analyst factored in the latest outlook for the business, concluding that they were too optimistic previously.
After the downgrade, the one analyst covering Pioneer Power Solutions is now predicting revenues of US$34m in 2022. If met, this would reflect a huge 76% improvement in sales compared to the last 12 months. Losses are forecast to hold steady at around US$0.53. Yet before this consensus update, the analyst had been forecasting revenues of US$41m and losses of US$0.23 per share in 2022. So there's been quite a change-up of views after the recent consensus updates, with the analyst making a serious cut to their revenue forecasts while also expecting losses per share to increase.

Taking a look at the bigger picture now, one of the ways we can understand these forecasts is to see how they compare to both past performance and industry growth estimates. One thing stands out from these estimates, which is that Pioneer Power Solutions is forecast to grow faster in the future than it has in the past, with revenues expected to display 210% annualised growth until the end of 2022. If achieved, this would be a much better result than the 42% annual decline over the past five years. Compare this against analyst estimates for the broader industry, which suggest that (in aggregate) industry revenues are expected to grow 12% annually. Not only are Pioneer Power Solutions' revenues expected to improve, it seems that the analyst is also expecting it to grow faster than the wider industry.
The Bottom Line
The most important thing to take away is that the analyst increased their loss per share estimates for this year. Unfortunately, the analyst also downgraded their revenue estimates, although our data indicates revenues are expected to perform better than the wider market. We wouldn't be surprised to find shareholders feeling a bit shell-shocked, after these downgrades. It looks like the analyst has become a lot more bearish on Pioneer Power Solutions, and their negativity could be grounds for caution.
With that said, the long-term trajectory of the company's earnings is a lot more important than next year. We have analyst estimates for Pioneer Power Solutions going out as far as 2024, and you can see them free on our platform here.
