Have Insiders Been Buying Kandi Technologies Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:KNDI) Shares?
We often see insiders buying up shares in companies that perform well over the long term. The flip side of that is that there are more than a few examples of insiders dumping stock prior to a period of weak performance. So we'll take a look at whether insiders have been buying or selling shares in Kandi Technologies Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:KNDI).
What Is Insider Selling?
Most investors know that it is quite permissible for company leaders, such as directors of the board, to buy and sell stock in the company. However, such insiders must disclose their trading activities, and not trade on inside information.
Insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing. But logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares. For example, a Columbia University study found that 'insiders are more likely to engage in open market purchases of their own company’s stock when the firm is about to reveal new agreements with customers and suppliers'.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Kandi Technologies Group
In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when Chairman Xiaoming Hu bought US$756k worth of shares at a price of US$5.52 per share. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at above the current price of US$5.40. Their view may have changed since then, but at least it shows they felt optimistic at the time. In our view, the price an insider pays for shares is very important. As a general rule, we feel more positive about a stock when an insider has bought shares at above current prices, because that suggests they viewed the stock as good value, even at a higher price. The only individual insider to buy over the last year was Xiaoming Hu.
Xiaoming Hu bought 347k shares over the last 12 months at an average price of US$4.92. You can see a visual depiction of insider transactions (by individuals) over the last 12 months, below. If you want to know exactly who sold, for how much, and when, simply click on the graph below!
Insider Ownership of Kandi Technologies Group
I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. Kandi Technologies Group insiders own about US$81m worth of shares. That equates to 29% of the company. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.
So What Do The Kandi Technologies Group Insider Transactions Indicate?
The fact that there have been no Kandi Technologies Group insider transactions recently certainly doesn't bother us. On a brighter note, the transactions over the last year are encouraging. Overall we don't see anything to make us think Kandi Technologies Group insiders are doubting the company, and they do own shares. I like to dive deeper into how a company has performed in the past.
