How Much Are China XD Plastics Company Limited (NASDAQ:CXDC) Insiders Taking Off The Table?
It is not uncommon to see companies perform well in the years after insiders buy shares. Unfortunately, there are also plenty of examples of share prices declining precipitously after insiders have sold shares. So we'll take a look at whether insiders have been buying or selling shares in China XD Plastics Company Limited (NASDAQ:CXDC).
What Is Insider Buying?
It is perfectly legal for company insiders, including board members, to buy and sell stock in a company. However, rules govern insider transactions, and certain disclosures are required.
We don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions. But it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing. For example, a Harvard University study found that 'insider purchases earn abnormal returns of more than 6% per year'.

China XD Plastics Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the CFO, Secretary & Director, Zhang Dahe, sold US$192k worth of shares at a price of US$2.05 per share. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. It's of some comfort that this sale was conducted at a price well above the current share price, which is US$1.18. So it may not shed much light on insider confidence at current levels.

Insider Ownership
I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. It's great to see that China XD Plastics insiders own 42% of the company, worth about US$35m. Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.
