Did You Participate In Any Of Global Brands Manufacture's (TPE:6191) Fantastic 297% Return ?
The worst result, after buying shares in a company (assuming no leverage), would be if you lose all the money you put in. But on the bright side, if you buy shares in a high quality company at the right price, you can gain well over 100%. One great example is Global Brands Manufacture Ltd. (TPE:6191) which saw its share price drive 250% higher over five years. Unfortunately, though, the stock has dropped 6.6% over a week.

While markets are a powerful pricing mechanism, share prices reflect investor sentiment, not just underlying business performance. One flawed but reasonable way to assess how sentiment around a company has changed is to compare the earnings per share (EPS) with the share price.
During the last half decade, Global Brands Manufacture became profitable. That kind of transition can be an inflection point that justifies a strong share price gain, just as we have seen here. Since the company was unprofitable five years ago, but not three years ago, it's worth taking a look at the returns in the last three years, too. We can see that the Global Brands Manufacture share price is up 84% in the last three years. During the same period, EPS grew by 49% each year. This EPS growth is higher than the 23% average annual increase in the share price over the same three years. So you might conclude the market is a little more cautious about the stock, these days. This unenthusiastic sentiment is reflected in the stock's reasonably modest P/E ratio of 8.59.

What About Dividends?
As well as measuring the share price return, investors should also consider the total shareholder return (TSR). The TSR is a return calculation that accounts for the value of cash dividends (assuming that any dividend received was reinvested) and the calculated value of any discounted capital raisings and spin-offs. It's fair to say that the TSR gives a more complete picture for stocks that pay a dividend. As it happens, Global Brands Manufacture's TSR for the last 5 years was 297%, which exceeds the share price return mentioned earlier. This is largely a result of its dividend payments!
A Different Perspective
It's nice to see that Global Brands Manufacture shareholders have received a total shareholder return of 50% over the last year. Of course, that includes the dividend. Since the one-year TSR is better than the five-year TSR (the latter coming in at 32% per year), it would seem that the stock's performance has improved in recent times. In the best case scenario, this may hint at some real business momentum, implying that now could be a great time to delve deeper. It's always interesting to track share price performance over the longer term. But to understand Global Brands Manufacture better, we need to consider many other factors. Consider risks, for instance. Every company has them, and we've spotted 1 warning sign for Global Brands Manufacture you should know about.
