Here's Why I Think Delta Electronics (TPE:2308) Is An Interesting Stock

It's only natural that many investors, especially those who are new to the game, prefer to buy shares in 'sexy' stocks with a good story, even if those businesses lose money. But as Warren Buffett has mused, 'If you've been playing poker for half an hour and you still don't know who the patsy is, you're the patsy.' When they buy such story stocks, investors are all too often the patsy.

If, on the other hand, you like companies that have revenue, and even earn profits, then you may well be interested in Delta Electronics (TPE:2308). While profit is not necessarily a social good, it's easy to admire a business that can consistently produce it. Loss-making companies are always racing against time to reach financial sustainability, but time is often a friend of the profitable company, especially if it is growing.

How Quickly Is Delta Electronics Increasing Earnings Per Share?

The market is a voting machine in the short term, but a weighing machine in the long term, so share price follows earnings per share (EPS) eventually. That makes EPS growth an attractive quality for any company. We can see that in the last three years Delta Electronics grew its EPS by 12% per year. That's a pretty good rate, if the company can sustain it.

I like to take a look at earnings before interest and (EBIT) tax margins, as well as revenue growth, to get another take on the quality of the company's growth. The good news is that Delta Electronics is growing revenues, and EBIT margins improved by 3.9 percentage points to 11%, over the last year. Ticking those two boxes is a good sign of growth, in my book.

Are Delta Electronics Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

We would not expect to see insiders owning a large percentage of a NT$714b company like Delta Electronics. But we are reassured by the fact they have invested in the company. Notably, they have an enormous stake in the company, worth NT$60b. This suggests to me that leadership will be very mindful of shareholders' interests when making decisions!

Does Delta Electronics Deserve A Spot On Your Watchlist?

One positive for Delta Electronics is that it is growing EPS. That's nice to see. Just as polish makes silverware pop, the high level of insider ownership enhances my enthusiasm for this growth. The combination sparks joy for me, so I'd consider keeping the company on a watchlist. Of course, just because Delta Electronics is growing does not mean it is undervalued.
