Should You Be Impressed By All Ring Tech's (GTSM:6187) Returns on Capital?
To find a multi-bagger stock, what are the underlying trends we should look for in a business? One common approach is to try and find a company with returns on capital employed (ROCE) that are increasing, in conjunction with a growing amount of capital employed. Put simply, these types of businesses are compounding machines, meaning they are continually reinvesting their earnings at ever-higher rates of return. Although, when we looked at All Ring Tech (GTSM:6187), it didn't seem to tick all of these boxes.
Return On Capital Employed (ROCE): What is it?
For those who don't know, ROCE is a measure of a company's yearly pre-tax profit (its return), relative to the capital employed in the business. Analysts use this formula to calculate it for All Ring Tech:
Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) ÷ (Total Assets - Current Liabilities)
0.13 = NT$239m ÷ (NT$2.4b - NT$559m) (Based on the trailing twelve months to September 2020).
So, All Ring Tech has an ROCE of 13%. That's a relatively normal return on capital, and it's around the 11% generated by the Electronic industry.

What Can We Tell From All Ring Tech's ROCE Trend?
Over the past five years, All Ring Tech's ROCE and capital employed have both remained mostly flat. This tells us the company isn't reinvesting in itself, so it's plausible that it's past the growth phase. With that in mind, unless investment picks up again in the future, we wouldn't expect All Ring Tech to be a multi-bagger going forward.
The Bottom Line
We can conclude that in regards to All Ring Tech's returns on capital employed and the trends, there isn't much change to report on. Investors must think there's better things to come because the stock has knocked it out of the park, delivering a 226% gain to shareholders who have held over the last five years. Ultimately, if the underlying trends persist, we wouldn't hold our breath on it being a multi-bagger going forward.
