Panjit International (TWSE:2481) Has Announced That Its Dividend Will Be Reduced To NT$1.20
Panjit International Inc.'s (TWSE:2481) dividend is being reduced from last year's payment covering the same period to NT$1.20 on the 30th of August. This means that the annual payment is 1.9% of the current stock price, which is lower than what the rest of the industry is paying.

Panjit International's Earnings Easily Cover The Distributions
If it is predictable over a long period, even low dividend yields can be attractive. Based on the last payment, Panjit International was quite comfortably earning enough to cover the dividend. This indicates that a lot of the earnings are being reinvested into the business, with the aim of fueling growth.
Over the next year, EPS is forecast to expand by 93.2%. Assuming the dividend continues along recent trends, we think the payout ratio could be 31% by next year, which is in a pretty sustainable range.
Panjit International's Dividend Has Lacked Consistency
Panjit International has been paying dividends for a while, but the track record isn't stellar. If the company cuts once, it definitely isn't argument against the possibility of it cutting in the future. Since 2016, the dividend has gone from NT$1.00 total annually to NT$1.20. This implies that the company grew its distributions at a yearly rate of about 2.3% over that duration. It's encouraging to see some dividend growth, but the dividend has been cut at least once, and the size of the cut would eliminate most of the growth anyway, which makes this less attractive as an income investment.
Dividend Growth May Be Hard To Achieve
With a relatively unstable dividend, it's even more important to see if earnings per share is growing. Panjit International hasn't seen much change in its earnings per share over the last five years.
Our Thoughts On Panjit International's Dividend
Overall, it's not great to see that the dividend has been cut, but this might be explained by the payments being a bit high previously. The company is generating plenty of cash, which could maintain the dividend for a while, but the track record hasn't been great. We would be a touch cautious of relying on this stock primarily for the dividend income.
It's important to note that companies having a consistent dividend policy will generate greater investor confidence than those having an erratic one.
