LHT Holdings (SGX:BEI) Might Have The Makings Of A Multi-Bagger
What are the early trends we should look for to identify a stock that could multiply in value over the long term? Ideally, a business will show two trends; firstly a growing return on capital employed (ROCE) and secondly, an increasing amount of capital employed. This shows us that it's a compounding machine, able to continually reinvest its earnings back into the business and generate higher returns. With that in mind, we've noticed some promising trends at LHT Holdings (SGX:BEI) so let's look a bit deeper.
Return On Capital Employed (ROCE): What Is It?
For those that aren't sure what ROCE is, it measures the amount of pre-tax profits a company can generate from the capital employed in its business. Analysts use this formula to calculate it for LHT Holdings:
Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) ÷ (Total Assets - Current Liabilities)
0.019 = S$1.2m ÷ (S$67m - S$4.1m) (Based on the trailing twelve months to June 2024).
So, LHT Holdings has an ROCE of 1.9%. Ultimately, that's a low return and it under-performs the Forestry industry average of 7.4%.

While the past is not representative of the future, it can be helpful to know how a company has performed historically, which is why we have this chart above. The Trend Of ROCE
Shareholders will be relieved that LHT Holdings has broken into profitability. The company was generating losses five years ago, but has managed to turn it around and as we saw earlier is now earning 1.9%, which is always encouraging. On top of that, what's interesting is that the amount of capital being employed has remained steady, so the business hasn't needed to put any additional money to work to generate these higher returns. With no noticeable increase in capital employed, it's worth knowing what the company plans on doing going forward in regards to reinvesting and growing the business. After all, a company can only become a long term multi-bagger if it continually reinvests in itself at high rates of return.
In Conclusion...
To bring it all together, LHT Holdings has done well to increase the returns it's generating from its capital employed. And with the stock having performed exceptionally well over the last five years, these patterns are being accounted for by investors. In light of that, we think it's worth looking further into this stock because if LHT Holdings can keep these trends up, it could have a bright future ahead.
