Here's Why I Think Waystream Holding (STO:WAYS) Might Deserve Your Attention Today
It's only natural that many investors, especially those who are new to the game, prefer to buy shares in 'sexy' stocks with a good story, even if those businesses lose money. But as Peter Lynch said in One Up On Wall Street, 'Long shots almost never pay off.'
In contrast to all that, I prefer to spend time on companies like Waystream Holding (STO:WAYS), which has not only revenues, but also profits. Now, I'm not saying that the stock is necessarily undervalued today; but I can't shake an appreciation for the profitability of the business itself. Conversely, a loss-making company is yet to prove itself with profit, and eventually the sweet milk of external capital may run sour.

How Fast Is Waystream Holding Growing Its Earnings Per Share?
Over the last three years, Waystream Holding has grown earnings per share (EPS) like young bamboo after rain; fast, and from a low base. So I don't think the percent growth rate is particularly meaningful. As a result, I'll zoom in on growth over the last year, instead. Like a falcon taking flight, Waystream Holding's EPS soared from kr1.00 to kr1.45, over the last year. That's a commendable gain of 45%.
Careful consideration of revenue growth and earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) margins can help inform a view on the sustainability of the recent profit growth. The good news is that Waystream Holding is growing revenues, and EBIT margins improved by 3.7 percentage points to 17%, over the last year. Ticking those two boxes is a good sign of growth, in my book.

Since Waystream Holding is no giant, with a market capitalization of kr122m, so you should definitely check its cash and debt before getting too excited about its prospects.
Are Waystream Holding Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?
I always like to check up on CEO compensation, because I think that reasonable pay levels, around or below the median, can be a sign that shareholder interests are well considered. I discovered that the median total compensation for the CEOs of companies like Waystream Holding with market caps under kr1.7b is about kr2.0m.
Waystream Holding offered total compensation worth kr1.5m to its CEO in the year to . That seems pretty reasonable, especially given its below the median for similar sized companies. CEO compensation is hardly the most important aspect of a company to consider, but when its reasonable that does give me a little more confidence that leadership are looking out for shareholder interests. It can also be a sign of a culture of integrity, in a broader sense.
Should You Add Waystream Holding To Your Watchlist?
For growth investors like me, Waystream Holding's raw rate of earnings growth is a beacon in the night. With swiftly growing earnings, it probably has its best days ahead, and the modest CEO pay suggests the company is careful with cash. So I'd venture it may well deserve a spot on your watchlist, or even a little further research.
