Haypp Group AB (publ)'s (STO:HAYPP) Shares Leap 25% Yet They're Still Not Telling The Full Story

Haypp Group AB (publ) (STO:HAYPP) shareholders would be excited to see that the share price has had a great month, posting a 25% gain and recovering from prior weakness. Looking back a bit further, it's encouraging to see the stock is up 91% in the last year.

Although its price has surged higher, it's still not a stretch to say that Haypp Group's price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 0.8x right now seems quite "middle-of-the-road" compared to the Specialty Retail industry in Sweden, where the median P/S ratio is around 0.5x. While this might not raise any eyebrows, if the P/S ratio is not justified investors could be missing out on a potential opportunity or ignoring looming disappointment.

What Does Haypp Group's P/S Mean For Shareholders?

Recent times have been advantageous for Haypp Group as its revenues have been rising faster than most other companies. It might be that many expect the strong revenue performance to wane, which has kept the P/S ratio from rising. If the company manages to stay the course, then investors should be rewarded with a share price that matches its revenue figures.

Is There Some Revenue Growth Forecasted For Haypp Group?

There's an inherent assumption that a company should be matching the industry for P/S ratios like Haypp Group's to be considered reasonable.

Retrospectively, the last year delivered an exceptional 19% gain to the company's top line. Pleasingly, revenue has also lifted 72% in aggregate from three years ago, thanks to the last 12 months of growth. Accordingly, shareholders would have definitely welcomed those medium-term rates of revenue growth.

Turning to the outlook, the next year should generate growth of 18% as estimated by the sole analyst watching the company. With the industry only predicted to deliver 3.6%, the company is positioned for a stronger revenue result.

With this information, we find it interesting that Haypp Group is trading at a fairly similar P/S compared to the industry. Apparently some shareholders are skeptical of the forecasts and have been accepting lower selling prices.

The Final Word

Haypp Group's stock has a lot of momentum behind it lately, which has brought its P/S level with the rest of the industry. Using the price-to-sales ratio alone to determine if you should sell your stock isn't sensible, however it can be a practical guide to the company's future prospects.

Looking at Haypp Group's analyst forecasts revealed that its superior revenue outlook isn't giving the boost to its P/S that we would've expected. Perhaps uncertainty in the revenue forecasts are what's keeping the P/S ratio consistent with the rest of the industry. However, if you agree with the analysts' forecasts, you may be able to pick up the stock at an attractive price.
