If you're looking for a multi-bagger, there's a few things to keep an eye out for. Ideally, a business will show two trends; firstly a growing return on capital employed (ROCE) and secondly, an increasing amount of capital employed. Ultimately, this demonstrates that it's a business that is reinvesting profits at increasing rates of return. So when we looked at Clemondo Group (STO:CLEM) and its trend of ROCE, we really liked what we saw.

What Is Return On Capital Employed (ROCE)?

If you haven't worked with ROCE before, it measures the 'return' (pre-tax profit) a company generates from capital employed in its business. The formula for this calculation on Clemondo Group is:

Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) ÷ (Total Assets - Current Liabilities)

0.056 = kr7.4m ÷ (kr212m - kr80m) (Based on the trailing twelve months to December 2022).

Thus, Clemondo Group has an ROCE of 5.6%. In absolute terms, that's a low return and it also under-performs the Household Products industry average of 8.0%.

So How Is Clemondo Group's ROCE Trending?

Even though ROCE is still low in absolute terms, it's good to see it's heading in the right direction. The data shows that returns on capital have increased substantially over the last five years to 5.6%. The company is effectively making more money per dollar of capital used, and it's worth noting that the amount of capital has increased too, by 38%. This can indicate that there's plenty of opportunities to invest capital internally and at ever higher rates, a combination that's common among multi-baggers.

In another part of our analysis, we noticed that the company's ratio of current liabilities to total assets decreased to 37%, which broadly means the business is relying less on its suppliers or short-term creditors to fund its operations. So shareholders would be pleased that the growth in returns has mostly come from underlying business performance.

Our Take On Clemondo Group's ROCE

All in all, it's terrific to see that Clemondo Group is reaping the rewards from prior investments and is growing its capital base. And since the stock has fallen 21% over the last five years, there might be an opportunity here. So researching this company further and determining whether or not these trends will continue seems justified.
