Sibek AB (publ) (STO:SIBEK) Stocks Shoot Up 29% But Its P/S Still Looks Reasonable
Sibek AB (publ) (STO:SIBEK) shareholders would be excited to see that the share price has had a great month, posting a 29% gain and recovering from prior weakness. Longer-term shareholders would be thankful for the recovery in the share price since it's now virtually flat for the year after the recent bounce.
Following the firm bounce in price, when almost half of the companies in Sweden's Professional Services industry have price-to-sales ratios (or "P/S") below 0.7x, you may consider Sibek as a stock probably not worth researching with its 1.7x P/S ratio. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/S at face value as there may be an explanation why it's as high as it is.

How Sibek Has Been Performing
The revenue growth achieved at Sibek over the last year would be more than acceptable for most companies. Perhaps the market is expecting this decent revenue performance to beat out the industry over the near term, which has kept the P/S propped up. You'd really hope so, otherwise you're paying a pretty hefty price for no particular reason.

Sibek's P/S ratio would be typical for a company that's expected to deliver solid growth, and importantly, perform better than the industry.
If we review the last year of revenue growth, the company posted a terrific increase of 17%. Pleasingly, revenue has also lifted 44% in aggregate from three years ago, thanks to the last 12 months of growth. Accordingly, shareholders would have definitely welcomed those medium-term rates of revenue growth.
When compared to the industry's one-year growth forecast of 3.8%, the most recent medium-term revenue trajectory is noticeably more alluring
With this information, we can see why Sibek is trading at such a high P/S compared to the industry. Presumably shareholders aren't keen to offload something they believe will continue to outmanoeuvre the wider industry.
What Does Sibek's P/S Mean For Investors?
Sibek shares have taken a big step in a northerly direction, but its P/S is elevated as a result. Generally, our preference is to limit the use of the price-to-sales ratio to establishing what the market thinks about the overall health of a company.
It's no surprise that Sibek can support its high P/S given the strong revenue growth its experienced over the last three-year is superior to the current industry outlook. Right now shareholders are comfortable with the P/S as they are quite confident revenue aren't under threat. If recent medium-term revenue trends continue, it's hard to see the share price falling strongly in the near future under these circumstances.
We don't want to rain on the parade too much, but we did also find 2 warning signs for Sibek (1 is concerning!) that you need to be mindful of.
