Market Cool On W5 Solutions AB (publ)'s (STO:W5) Revenues Pushing Shares 31% Lower
The W5 Solutions AB (publ) (STO:W5) share price has fared very poorly over the last month, falling by a substantial 31%. Instead of being rewarded, shareholders who have already held through the last twelve months are now sitting on a 40% share price drop.
After such a large drop in price, W5 Solutions may be sending bullish signals at the moment with its price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 1.9x, since almost half of all companies in the Aerospace & Defense industry in Sweden have P/S ratios greater than 2.5x and even P/S higher than 8x are not unusual. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/S at face value as there may be an explanation why it's limited.

What Does W5 Solutions' P/S Mean For Shareholders?
Recent times have been advantageous for W5 Solutions as its revenues have been rising faster than most other companies. One possibility is that the P/S ratio is low because investors think this strong revenue performance might be less impressive moving forward. If you like the company, you'd be hoping this isn't the case so that you could potentially pick up some stock while it's out of favour.

W5 Solutions' P/S ratio would be typical for a company that's only expected to deliver limited growth, and importantly, perform worse than the industry.
If we review the last year of revenue growth, the company posted a terrific increase of 45%. The latest three year period has also seen an excellent 209% overall rise in revenue, aided by its short-term performance. Accordingly, shareholders would have definitely welcomed those medium-term rates of revenue growth.
Turning to the outlook, the next year should generate growth of 22% as estimated by the dual analysts watching the company. Meanwhile, the rest of the industry is forecast to only expand by 17%, which is noticeably less attractive.
With this information, we find it odd that W5 Solutions is trading at a P/S lower than the industry. Apparently some shareholders are doubtful of the forecasts and have been accepting significantly lower selling prices.
The Bottom Line On W5 Solutions' P/S
W5 Solutions' recently weak share price has pulled its P/S back below other Aerospace & Defense companies. Generally, our preference is to limit the use of the price-to-sales ratio to establishing what the market thinks about the overall health of a company.
To us, it seems W5 Solutions currently trades on a significantly depressed P/S given its forecasted revenue growth is higher than the rest of its industry. There could be some major risk factors that are placing downward pressure on the P/S ratio. While the possibility of the share price plunging seems unlikely due to the high growth forecasted for the company, the market does appear to have some hesitation.
