Benign Growth For Inission AB (publ) (STO:INISS B) Underpins Its Share Price
When close to half the companies in Sweden have price-to-earnings ratios (or "P/E's") above 23x, you may consider Inission AB (publ) (STO:INISS B) as a highly attractive investment with its 11.1x P/E ratio. Nonetheless, we'd need to dig a little deeper to determine if there is a rational basis for the highly reduced P/E.
Inission hasn't been tracking well recently as its declining earnings compare poorly to other companies, which have seen some growth on average. It seems that many are expecting the dour earnings performance to persist, which has repressed the P/E. If you still like the company, you'd be hoping this isn't the case so that you could potentially pick up some stock while it's out of favour.

In order to justify its P/E ratio, Inission would need to produce anemic growth that's substantially trailing the market.
Taking a look back first, the company's earnings per share growth last year wasn't something to get excited about as it posted a disappointing decline of 28%. However, a few very strong years before that means that it was still able to grow EPS by an impressive 339% in total over the last three years. Accordingly, while they would have preferred to keep the run going, shareholders would probably welcome the medium-term rates of earnings growth.
Turning to the outlook, the next year should generate growth of 21% as estimated by the only analyst watching the company. Meanwhile, the rest of the market is forecast to expand by 31%, which is noticeably more attractive.
With this information, we can see why Inission is trading at a P/E lower than the market. It seems most investors are expecting to see limited future growth and are only willing to pay a reduced amount for the stock.
What We Can Learn From Inission's P/E?
Typically, we'd caution against reading too much into price-to-earnings ratios when settling on investment decisions, though it can reveal plenty about what other market participants think about the company.
As we suspected, our examination of Inission's analyst forecasts revealed that its inferior earnings outlook is contributing to its low P/E. At this stage investors feel the potential for an improvement in earnings isn't great enough to justify a higher P/E ratio. It's hard to see the share price rising strongly in the near future under these circumstances.
And what about other risks? Every company has them, and we've spotted 3 warning signs for Inission (of which 1 shouldn't be ignored!) you should know about.
