Like a puppy chasing its tail, some new investors often chase 'the next big thing', even if that means buying 'story stocks' without revenue, let alone profit. And in their study titled Who Falls Prey to the Wolf of Wall Street?' Leuz et. al. found that it is 'quite common' for investors to lose money by buying into 'pump and dump' schemes.

In contrast to all that, I prefer to spend time on companies like commercial bank Primorye (MCX:PRMB), which has not only revenues, but also profits. While profit is not necessarily a social good, it's easy to admire a business that can consistently produce it. In comparison, loss making companies act like a sponge for capital - but unlike such a sponge they do not always produce something when squeezed.

How Fast Is commercial bank Primorye Growing?

The market is a voting machine in the short term, but a weighing machine in the long term, so share price follows earnings per share (EPS) eventually. Therefore, there are plenty of investors who like to buy shares in companies that are growing EPS. I, for one, am blown away by the fact that commercial bank Primorye has grown EPS by 56% per year, over the last three years. While that sort of growth rate isn't sustainable for long, it certainly catches my attention; like a crow with a sparkly stone.

I like to see top-line growth as an indication that growth is sustainable, and I look for a high earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) margin to point to a competitive moat (though some companies with low margins also have moats). I note that commercial bank Primorye's revenue from operations was lower than its revenue in the last twelve months, so that could distort my analysis of its margins. While commercial bank Primorye may have maintained EBIT margins over the last year, revenue has fallen. Suffice it to say that is not a great sign of growth.

commercial bank Primorye isn't a huge company, given its market capitalization of ₽7.3b. That makes it extra important to check on its balance sheet strength.

Are commercial bank Primorye Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

Many consider high insider ownership to be a strong sign of alignment between the leaders of a company and the ordinary shareholders. So as you can imagine, the fact that commercial bank Primorye insiders own a significant number of shares certainly appeals to me. In fact, they own 93% of the company, so they will share in the same delights and challenges experienced by the ordinary shareholders. This makes me think they will be incentivised to plan for the long term - something I like to see. In terms of absolute value, insiders have ₽6.8b invested in the business, using the current share price. That should be more than enough to keep them focussed on creating shareholder value!

Is commercial bank Primorye Worth Keeping An Eye On?

commercial bank Primorye's earnings have taken off like any random crypto-currency did, back in 2017. That EPS growth certainly has my attention, and the large insider ownership only serves to further stoke my interest. At times fast EPS growth is a sign the business has reached an inflection point; and I do like those. So yes, on this short analysis I do think it's worth considering commercial bank Primorye for a spot on your watchlist. Don't forget that there may still be risks.
