It's only natural that many investors, especially those who are new to the game, prefer to buy shares in 'sexy' stocks with a good story, even if those businesses lose money. Unfortunately, high risk investments often have little probability of ever paying off, and many investors pay a price to learn their lesson.

If, on the other hand, you like companies that have revenue, and even earn profits, then you may well be interested in S.C. Promateris (BVB:PPL). Now, I'm not saying that the stock is necessarily undervalued today; but I can't shake an appreciation for the profitability of the business itself. Conversely, a loss-making company is yet to prove itself with profit, and eventually the sweet milk of external capital may run sour.

How Fast Is S.C. Promateris Growing?

As one of my mentors once told me, share price follows earnings per share (EPS). That makes EPS growth an attractive quality for any company. Over the last three years, S.C. Promateris has grown EPS by 4.0% per year. That might not be particularly high growth, but it does show that per-share earnings are moving steadily in the right direction.

One way to double-check a company's growth is to look at how its revenue, and earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) margins are changing. S.C. Promateris shareholders can take confidence from the fact that EBIT margins are up from 8.9% to 11%, and revenue is growing. That's great to see, on both counts.

S.C. Promateris isn't a huge company, given its market capitalization of RON287m. That makes it extra important to check on its balance sheet strength.

Are S.C. Promateris Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

Personally, I like to see high insider ownership of a company, since it suggests that it will be managed in the interests of shareholders. So we're pleased to report that S.C. Promateris insiders own a meaningful share of the business. Indeed, with a collective holding of 52%, company insiders are in control and have plenty of capital behind the venture. To me this is a good sign because it suggests they will be incentivised to build value for shareholders over the long term. With that sort of holding, insiders have about RON149m riding on the stock, at current prices. That should be more than enough to keep them focussed on creating shareholder value!

Does S.C. Promateris Deserve A Spot On Your Watchlist?

One positive for S.C. Promateris is that it is growing EPS. That's nice to see. Just as polish makes silverware pop, the high level of insider ownership enhances my enthusiasm for this growth. That combination appeals to me, for one. So yes, I do think the stock is worth keeping an eye on. Still, you should learn about the 3 warning signs we've spotted with S.C. Promateris (including 1 which is a bit concerning) .
