Can Centrum Finansowe (WSE:CFS) Continue To Grow Its Returns On Capital?
What trends should we look for it we want to identify stocks that can multiply in value over the long term? One common approach is to try and find a company with returns on capital employed (ROCE) that are increasing, in conjunction with a growing amount of capital employed. This shows us that it's a compounding machine, able to continually reinvest its earnings back into the business and generate higher returns. With that in mind, we've noticed some promising trends at Centrum Finansowe (WSE:CFS) so let's look a bit deeper.
Return On Capital Employed (ROCE): What is it?
For those that aren't sure what ROCE is, it measures the amount of pre-tax profits a company can generate from the capital employed in its business. To calculate this metric for Centrum Finansowe, this is the formula:
Return on Capital Employed = Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) ÷ (Total Assets - Current Liabilities)
0.18 = zł8.3m ÷ (zł52m - zł6.6m) (Based on the trailing twelve months to September 2020).
So, Centrum Finansowe has an ROCE of 18%. On its own, that's a standard return, however it's much better than the 13% generated by the Commercial Services industry.

How Are Returns Trending?
The trends we've noticed at Centrum Finansowe are quite reassuring. Over the last five years, returns on capital employed have risen substantially to 18%. Basically the business is earning more per dollar of capital invested and in addition to that, 53% more capital is being employed now too. The increasing returns on a growing amount of capital is common amongst multi-baggers and that's why we're impressed.
On a related note, the company's ratio of current liabilities to total assets has decreased to 13%, which basically reduces it's funding from the likes of short-term creditors or suppliers. This tells us that Centrum Finansowe has grown its returns without a reliance on increasing their current liabilities, which we're very happy with.Our Take On Centrum Finansowe's ROCE
In summary, it's great to see that Centrum Finansowe can compound returns by consistently reinvesting capital at increasing rates of return, because these are some of the key ingredients of those highly sought after multi-baggers. Given the stock has declined 38% in the last five years, this could be a good investment if the valuation and other metrics are also appealing. That being the case, research into the company's current valuation metrics and future prospects seems fitting.
