Why We're Not Concerned Yet About Arribatec Group ASA's (OB:ARR) 28% Share Price Plunge

Arribatec Group ASA (OB:ARR) shareholders won't be pleased to see that the share price has had a very rough month, dropping 28% and undoing the prior period's positive performance. Instead of being rewarded, shareholders who have already held through the last twelve months are now sitting on a 40% share price drop.

Even after such a large drop in price, there still wouldn't be many who think Arribatec Group's price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 0.4x is worth a mention when the median P/S in Norway's IT industry is similar at about 0.7x. Although, it's not wise to simply ignore the P/S without explanation as investors may be disregarding a distinct opportunity or a costly mistake.

How Has Arribatec Group Performed Recently?

There hasn't been much to differentiate Arribatec Group's and the industry's revenue growth lately. Perhaps the market is expecting future revenue performance to show no drastic signs of changing, justifying the P/S being at current levels. If you like the company, you'd be hoping this can at least be maintained so that you could pick up some stock while it's not quite in favour.

Keen to find out how analysts think Arribatec Group's future stacks up against the industry? In that case, our free report is a great place to start.

What Are Revenue Growth Metrics Telling Us About The P/S?

There's an inherent assumption that a company should be matching the industry for P/S ratios like Arribatec Group's to be considered reasonable.

If we review the last year of revenue, the company posted a result that saw barely any deviation from a year ago. Although pleasingly revenue has lifted 96% in aggregate from three years ago, notwithstanding the last 12 months. Therefore, it's fair to say the revenue growth recently has been great for the company, but investors will want to ask why it has slowed to such an extent.

Turning to the outlook, the next year should generate growth of 11% as estimated by the only analyst watching the company. With the industry predicted to deliver 11% growth , the company is positioned for a comparable revenue result.

With this information, we can see why Arribatec Group is trading at a fairly similar P/S to the industry. It seems most investors are expecting to see average future growth and are only willing to pay a moderate amount for the stock.

What We Can Learn From Arribatec Group's P/S?

With its share price dropping off a cliff, the P/S for Arribatec Group looks to be in line with the rest of the IT industry. It's argued the price-to-sales ratio is an inferior measure of value within certain industries, but it can be a powerful business sentiment indicator.

Our look at Arribatec Group's revenue growth estimates show that its P/S is about what we expect, as both metrics follow closely with the industry averages. At this stage investors feel the potential for an improvement or deterioration in revenue isn't great enough to push P/S in a higher or lower direction. All things considered, if the P/S and revenue estimates contain no major shocks, then it's hard to see the share price moving strongly in either direction in the near future.
