Prosus Group CEO & Executive Director Acquires 326% More Stock
Those following along with Prosus N.V. (AMS:PRX) will no doubt be intrigued by the recent purchase of shares by Fabricio Bloisi, Group CEO & Executive Director of the company, who spent a stonking €20m on stock at an average price of €48.46. That increased their holding by a full 326%, which arguably implies the sort of confidence required for a shy sweet-natured nerd to ask the most popular kid in the school to go out on a date.
The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Prosus
The Non-independent Non-Executive Chair, Jacobus Petrus Bekker, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for €157m worth of shares at a price of €40.41 each. So it's clear an insider wanted to take some cash off the table, even below the current price of €48.35. As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. However, while insider selling is sometimes discouraging, it's only a weak signal. It is worth noting that this sale was only 20% of Jacobus Petrus Bekker's holding.
In total, Prosus insiders sold more than they bought over the last year. The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. If you click on the chart, you can see all the individual transactions, including the share price, individual, and the date!

Insider Ownership
Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. It's great to see that Prosus insiders own 0.8% of the company, worth about €911m. I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.
What Might The Insider Transactions At Prosus Tell Us?
It's certainly positive to see the recent insider purchase. On the other hand the transaction history, over the last year, isn't so positive. The recent buying by an insider , along with high insider ownership, suggest that Prosus insiders are fairly aligned, and optimistic. So these insider transactions can help us build a thesis about the stock, but it's also worthwhile knowing the risks facing this company.
