Should You Be Adding Exor (AMS:EXO) To Your Watchlist Today?

It's common for many investors, especially those who are inexperienced, to buy shares in companies with a good story even if these companies are loss-making. Unfortunately, these high risk investments often have little probability of ever paying off, and many investors pay a price to learn their lesson. Loss making companies can act like a sponge for capital - so investors should be cautious that they're not throwing good money after bad.

In contrast to all that, many investors prefer to focus on companies like Exor (AMS:EXO), which has not only revenues, but also profits. While profit isn't the sole metric that should be considered when investing, it's worth recognising businesses that can consistently produce it.

How Fast Is Exor Growing Its Earnings Per Share?

Investors and investment funds chase profits, and that means share prices tend rise with positive earnings per share (EPS) outcomes. Which is why EPS growth is looked upon so favourably. It's an outstanding feat for Exor to have grown EPS from €16.25 to €77.87 in just one year. When you see earnings grow that quickly, it often means good things ahead for the company.

Careful consideration of revenue growth and earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) margins can help inform a view on the sustainability of the recent profit growth. Our analysis has highlighted that Exor's revenue from operations did not account for all of their revenue in the previous 12 months, so our analysis of its margins might not accurately reflect the underlying business. Unfortunately, Exor's revenue dropped 14% last year, but the silver lining is that EBIT margins improved from 11% to 46%. That falls short of ideal.

Are Exor Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

It's said that there's no smoke without fire. For investors, insider buying is often the smoke that indicates which stocks could set the market alight. That's because insider buying often indicates that those closest to the company have confidence that the share price will perform well. However, small purchases are not always indicative of conviction, and insiders don't always get it right.

One shining light for Exor is the serious outlay one insider has made to buy shares, in the last year. In other words, the Independent Chairman & Senior Non-Executive Director, Nitin Motta, acquired €1.0m worth of shares over the previous 12 months at an average price of around €100. It doesn't get much better than that, in terms of large investments from insiders.

Does Exor Deserve A Spot On Your Watchlist?
