W T K Holdings Berhad (KLSE:WTK) Share Prices Have Dropped 64% In The Last Five Years
Statistically speaking, long term investing is a profitable endeavour. But no-one is immune from buying too high. For example, after five long years the W T K Holdings Berhad (KLSE:WTK) share price is a whole 64% lower. That is extremely sub-optimal, to say the least. It's up 1.1% in the last seven days.

Because W T K Holdings Berhad made a loss in the last twelve months, we think the market is probably more focussed on revenue and revenue growth, at least for now. Generally speaking, companies without profits are expected to grow revenue every year, and at a good clip. That's because it's hard to be confident a company will be sustainable if revenue growth is negligible, and it never makes a profit.
Over half a decade W T K Holdings Berhad reduced its trailing twelve month revenue by 4.2% for each year. While far from catastrophic that is not good. The share price decline of 10% compound, over five years, is understandable given the company is losing money, and revenue is moving in the wrong direction. We don't think anyone is rushing to buy this stock. Not that many investors like to invest in companies that are losing money and not growing revenue.

What About Dividends?
As well as measuring the share price return, investors should also consider the total shareholder return (TSR). Whereas the share price return only reflects the change in the share price, the TSR includes the value of dividends (assuming they were reinvested) and the benefit of any discounted capital raising or spin-off. It's fair to say that the TSR gives a more complete picture for stocks that pay a dividend. We note that for W T K Holdings Berhad the TSR over the last 5 years was -60%, which is better than the share price return mentioned above. This is largely a result of its dividend payments!
A Different Perspective
W T K Holdings Berhad shareholders are down 14% for the year (even including dividends), but the market itself is up 9.2%. However, keep in mind that even the best stocks will sometimes underperform the market over a twelve month period. However, the loss over the last year isn't as bad as the 10% per annum loss investors have suffered over the last half decade. We'd need to see some sustained improvements in the key metrics before we could muster much enthusiasm. I find it very interesting to look at share price over the long term as a proxy for business performance. But to truly gain insight, we need to consider other information, too. For example, we've discovered 3 warning signs for W T K Holdings Berhad (1 is significant!) that you should be aware of before investing here.
