If You Like EPS Growth Then Check Out P.A. Resources Berhad (KLSE:PA) Before It's Too Late
Some have more dollars than sense, they say, so even companies that have no revenue, no profit, and a record of falling short, can easily find investors. But as Peter Lynch said in One Up On Wall Street, 'Long shots almost never pay off.'
In contrast to all that, I prefer to spend time on companies like P.A. Resources Berhad (KLSE:PA), which has not only revenues, but also profits. While that doesn't make the shares worth buying at any price, you can't deny that successful capitalism requires profit, eventually. Loss-making companies are always racing against time to reach financial sustainability, but time is often a friend of the profitable company, especially if it is growing.

P.A. Resources Berhad's Improving Profits
Over the last three years, P.A. Resources Berhad has grown earnings per share (EPS) like young bamboo after rain; fast, and from a low base. So I don't think the percent growth rate is particularly meaningful. As a result, I'll zoom in on growth over the last year, instead. Like a firecracker arcing through the night sky, P.A. Resources Berhad's EPS shot from RM0.0051 to RM0.014, over the last year. You don't see 181% year-on-year growth like that, very often. The best case scenario? That the business has hit a true inflection point.
I like to see top-line growth as an indication that growth is sustainable, and I look for a high earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) margin to point to a competitive moat (though some companies with low margins also have moats). The good news is that P.A. Resources Berhad is growing revenues, and EBIT margins improved by 3.3 percentage points to 7.1%, over the last year. That's great to see, on both counts.

P.A. Resources Berhad isn't a huge company, given its market capitalization of RM527m. That makes it extra important to check on its balance sheet strength.
Are P.A. Resources Berhad Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?
Personally, I like to see high insider ownership of a company, since it suggests that it will be managed in the interests of shareholders. So we're pleased to report that P.A. Resources Berhad insiders own a meaningful share of the business. Actually, with 40% of the company to their names, insiders are profoundly invested in the business. I'm reassured by this kind of alignment, as it suggests the business will be run for the benefit of shareholders. With that sort of holding, insiders have about RM210m riding on the stock, at current prices. That's nothing to sneeze at!
Is P.A. Resources Berhad Worth Keeping An Eye On?
P.A. Resources Berhad's earnings per share have taken off like a rocket aimed right at the moon. That sort of growth is nothing short of eye-catching, and the large investment held by insiders certainly brightens my view of the company. The hope is, of course, that the strong growth marks a fundamental improvement in the business economics. So yes, on this short analysis I do think it's worth considering P.A. Resources Berhad for a spot on your watchlist. Even so, be aware that P.A. Resources Berhad is showing 2 warning signs in our investment analysis , you should know about...
Although P.A. Resources Berhad certainly looks good to me, I would like it more if insiders were buying up shares. If you like to see insider buying, too, then this free list of growing companies that insiders are buying, could be exactly what you're looking for.
