Robostar (KOSDAQ:090360) Is Posting Promising Earnings But The Good News Doesn’t Stop There
Robostar Co., Ltd.'s (KOSDAQ:090360) solid earnings announcement recently didn't do much to the stock price. We did some digging, and we think that investors are missing some encouraging factors in the underlying numbers.

Examining Cashflow Against Robostar's Earnings
Many investors haven't heard of the accrual ratio from cashflow, but it is actually a useful measure of how well a company's profit is backed up by free cash flow (FCF) during a given period. To get the accrual ratio we first subtract FCF from profit for a period, and then divide that number by the average operating assets for the period. This ratio tells us how much of a company's profit is not backed by free cashflow.
As a result, a negative accrual ratio is a positive for the company, and a positive accrual ratio is a negative. While it's not a problem to have a positive accrual ratio, indicating a certain level of non-cash profits, a high accrual ratio is arguably a bad thing, because it indicates paper profits are not matched by cash flow. Notably, there is some academic evidence that suggests that a high accrual ratio is a bad sign for near-term profits, generally speaking.
Over the twelve months to December 2024, Robostar recorded an accrual ratio of -0.10. That indicates that its free cash flow was a fair bit more than its statutory profit. In fact, it had free cash flow of ₩8.7b in the last year, which was a lot more than its statutory profit of ₩2.22b. Robostar's free cash flow improved over the last year, which is generally good to see. Having said that, there is more to the story. We can see that unusual items have impacted its statutory profit, and therefore the accrual ratio.

How Do Unusual Items Influence Profit?
Robostar's profit was reduced by unusual items worth ₩147m in the last twelve months, and this helped it produce high cash conversion, as reflected by its unusual items. In a scenario where those unusual items included non-cash charges, we'd expect to see a strong accrual ratio, which is exactly what has happened in this case. It's never great to see unusual items costing the company profits, but on the upside, things might improve sooner rather than later. When we analysed the vast majority of listed companies worldwide, we found that significant unusual items are often not repeated. And, after all, that's exactly what the accounting terminology implies. Robostar took a rather significant hit from unusual items in the year to December 2024. All else being equal, this would likely have the effect of making the statutory profit look worse than its underlying earnings power.
Our Take On Robostar's Profit Performance
In conclusion, both Robostar's accrual ratio and its unusual items suggest that its statutory earnings are probably reasonably conservative. After considering all this, we reckon Robostar's statutory profit probably understates its earnings potential! In light of this, if you'd like to do more analysis on the company, it's vital to be informed of the risks involved. While conducting our analysis, we found that Robostar has 1 warning sign and it would be unwise to ignore this.
