Shareholders Are Thrilled That The COMMAXLtd (KOSDAQ:036690) Share Price Increased 202%
Unfortunately, investing is risky - companies can and do go bankrupt. But if you pick the right business to buy shares in, you can make more than you can lose. For example, the COMMAX Co.,Ltd (KOSDAQ:036690) share price had more than doubled in just one year - up 202%. On top of that, the share price is up 11% in about a quarter. But this move may well have been assisted by the reasonably buoyant market (up 8.3% in 90 days). On the other hand, longer term shareholders have had a tougher run, with the stock falling 9.3% in three years.

While the efficient markets hypothesis continues to be taught by some, it has been proven that markets are over-reactive dynamic systems, and investors are not always rational. One imperfect but simple way to consider how the market perception of a company has shifted is to compare the change in the earnings per share (EPS) with the share price movement.
During the last year, COMMAXLtd actually saw its earnings per share drop 38%.
So we don't think that investors are paying too much attention to EPS. Therefore, it seems likely that investors are putting more weight on metrics other than EPS, at the moment.
We doubt the modest 0.8% dividend yield is doing much to support the share price. Revenue was pretty flat year on year, but maybe a closer look at the data can explain the market optimism.

What About Dividends?
It is important to consider the total shareholder return, as well as the share price return, for any given stock. The TSR incorporates the value of any spin-offs or discounted capital raisings, along with any dividends, based on the assumption that the dividends are reinvested. It's fair to say that the TSR gives a more complete picture for stocks that pay a dividend. In the case of COMMAXLtd, it has a TSR of 205% for the last year. That exceeds its share price return that we previously mentioned. This is largely a result of its dividend payments!
A Different Perspective
It's good to see that COMMAXLtd has rewarded shareholders with a total shareholder return of 205% in the last twelve months. And that does include the dividend. That's better than the annualised return of 7% over half a decade, implying that the company is doing better recently. In the best case scenario, this may hint at some real business momentum, implying that now could be a great time to delve deeper. It's always interesting to track share price performance over the longer term. But to understand COMMAXLtd better, we need to consider many other factors. Even so, be aware that COMMAXLtd is showing 5 warning signs in our investment analysis , and 1 of those shouldn't be ignored...
