For beginners, it can seem like a good idea (and an exciting prospect) to buy a company that tells a good story to investors, even if it currently lacks a track record of revenue and profit. But as Peter Lynch said in One Up On Wall Street, 'Long shots almost never pay off.' Loss making companies can act like a sponge for capital - so investors should be cautious that they're not throwing good money after bad.
If this kind of company isn't your style, you like companies that generate revenue, and even earn profits, then you may well be interested in Cafe24 (KOSDAQ:042000). Even if this company is fairly valued by the market, investors would agree that generating consistent profits will continue to provide Cafe24 with the means to add long-term value to shareholders.
How Fast Is Cafe24 Growing Its Earnings Per Share?
Over the last three years, Cafe24 has grown earnings per share (EPS) at as impressive rate from a relatively low point, resulting in a three year percentage growth rate that isn't particularly indicative of expected future performance. So it would be better to isolate the growth rate over the last year for our analysis. To the delight of shareholders, Cafe24's EPS soared from ₩804 to ₩1,283, over the last year. That's a impressive gain of 60%.
Top-line growth is a great indicator that growth is sustainable, and combined with a high earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) margin, it's a great way for a company to maintain a competitive advantage in the market. The good news is that Cafe24 is growing revenues, and EBIT margins improved by 7.5 percentage points to 11%, over the last year. That's great to see, on both counts.

Are Cafe24 Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?
It should give investors a sense of security owning shares in a company if insiders also own shares, creating a close alignment their interests. Cafe24 followers will find comfort in knowing that insiders have a significant amount of capital that aligns their best interests with the wider shareholder group. Indeed, they have a considerable amount of wealth invested in it, currently valued at ₩219b. This totals to 23% of shares in the company. Enough to lead management's decision making process down a path that brings the most benefit to shareholders. Very encouraging.
Does Cafe24 Deserve A Spot On Your Watchlist?
You can't deny that Cafe24 has grown its earnings per share at a very impressive rate. That's attractive. With EPS growth rates like that, it's hardly surprising to see company higher-ups place confidence in the company through continuing to hold a significant investment. Fast growth and confident insiders should be enough to warrant further research, so it would seem that it's a good stock to follow. While we've looked at the quality of the earnings, we haven't yet done any work to value the stock. So if you like to buy cheap, you may want to check if Cafe24 is trading on a high P/E or a low P/E, relative to its industry.
