Strong week for AminologicsLtd (KOSDAQ:074430) shareholders doesn't alleviate pain of three-year loss

While it may not be enough for some shareholders, we think it is good to see the Aminologics Co.,Ltd. (KOSDAQ:074430) share price up 19% in a single quarter. But that doesn't change the fact that the returns over the last three years have been disappointing. Indeed, the share price is down a tragic 62% in the last three years. Some might say the recent bounce is to be expected after such a bad drop. The rise has some hopeful, but turnarounds are often precarious.

While the last three years has been tough for AminologicsLtd shareholders, this past week has shown signs of promise. So let's look at the longer term fundamentals and see if they've been the driver of the negative returns.

AminologicsLtd isn't currently profitable, so most analysts would look to revenue growth to get an idea of how fast the underlying business is growing. Generally speaking, companies without profits are expected to grow revenue every year, and at a good clip. As you can imagine, fast revenue growth, when maintained, often leads to fast profit growth.

In the last three years AminologicsLtd saw its revenue shrink by 14% per year. That's not what investors generally want to see. With revenue in decline, and profit but a dream, we can understand why the share price has been declining at 17% per year. Of course, it's the future that will determine whether today's price is a good one. We'd be pretty wary of this one until it makes a profit, because we don't specialize in finding turnaround situations.

A Different Perspective

While the broader market gained around 10% in the last year, AminologicsLtd shareholders lost 17%. However, keep in mind that even the best stocks will sometimes underperform the market over a twelve month period. Regrettably, last year's performance caps off a bad run, with the shareholders facing a total loss of 8% per year over five years. Generally speaking long term share price weakness can be a bad sign, though contrarian investors might want to research the stock in hope of a turnaround. It's always interesting to track share price performance over the longer term. But to understand AminologicsLtd better, we need to consider many other factors. Take risks, for example - AminologicsLtd has 2 warning signs (and 1 which can't be ignored) we think you should know about.
