Investors more bullish on Neo Cremar (KOSDAQ:311390) this week as stock jumps 14%, despite earnings trending downwards over past year

These days it's easy to simply buy an index fund, and your returns should (roughly) match the market. But you can significantly boost your returns by picking above-average stocks. To wit, the Neo Cremar Co., Ltd. (KOSDAQ:311390) share price is 58% higher than it was a year ago, much better than the market return of around 29% (not including dividends) in the same period. That's a solid performance by our standards! However, the longer term returns haven't been so impressive, with the stock up just 6.0% in the last three years.

The past week has proven to be lucrative for Neo Cremar investors, so let's see if fundamentals drove the company's one-year performance.

While the efficient markets hypothesis continues to be taught by some, it has been proven that markets are over-reactive dynamic systems, and investors are not always rational. By comparing earnings per share (EPS) and share price changes over time, we can get a feel for how investor attitudes to a company have morphed over time.

During the last year, Neo Cremar actually saw its earnings per share drop 83%. We do note that there were extraordinary items impacting the result.

So we don't think that investors are paying too much attention to EPS. Since the change in EPS doesn't seem to correlate with the change in share price, it's worth taking a look at other metrics.

We think that the revenue growth of 203% could have some investors interested. We do see some companies suppress earnings in order to accelerate revenue growth.

A Different Perspective

It's nice to see that Neo Cremar shareholders have received a total shareholder return of 58% over the last year. Since the one-year TSR is better than the five-year TSR (the latter coming in at 5% per year), it would seem that the stock's performance has improved in recent times. Someone with an optimistic perspective could view the recent improvement in TSR as indicating that the business itself is getting better with time. It's always interesting to track share price performance over the longer term. But to understand Neo Cremar better, we need to consider many other factors.
