Do DSC Investment's (KOSDAQ:241520) Earnings Warrant Your Attention?
Some have more dollars than sense, they say, so even companies that have no revenue, no profit, and a record of falling short, can easily find investors. But as Peter Lynch said in One Up On Wall Street, 'Long shots almost never pay off.'
In contrast to all that, I prefer to spend time on companies like DSC Investment (KOSDAQ:241520), which has not only revenues, but also profits. While profit is not necessarily a social good, it's easy to admire a business that can consistently produce it. While a well funded company may sustain losses for years, unless its owners have an endless appetite for subsidizing the customer, it will need to generate a profit eventually, or else breathe its last breath.

DSC Investment's Improving Profits
In the last three years DSC Investment's earnings per share took off like a rocket; fast, and from a low base. So the actual rate of growth doesn't tell us much. As a result, I'll zoom in on growth over the last year, instead. Like the last firework on New Year's Eve accelerating into the sky, DSC Investment's EPS shot from ₩388 to ₩653, over the last year. You don't see 68% year-on-year growth like that, very often. That could be a sign that the business has reached a true inflection point.
Careful consideration of revenue growth and earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) margins can help inform a view on the sustainability of the recent profit growth. I note that DSC Investment's revenue from operations was lower than its revenue in the last twelve months, so that could distort my analysis of its margins. While we note DSC Investment's EBIT margins were flat over the last year, revenue grew by a solid 39% to ₩24b. That's progress.

DSC Investment isn't a huge company, given its market capitalization of ₩101b. That makes it extra important to check on its balance sheet strength.
Are DSC Investment Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?
I like company leaders to have some skin in the game, so to speak, because it increases alignment of incentives between the people running the business, and its true owners. So it is good to see that DSC Investment insiders have a significant amount of capital invested in the stock. To be specific, they have ₩30b worth of shares. That shows significant buy-in, and may indicate conviction in the business strategy. Those holdings account for over 30% of the company; visible skin in the game.
Does DSC Investment Deserve A Spot On Your Watchlist?
DSC Investment's earnings have taken off like any random crypto-currency did, back in 2017. That sort of growth is nothing short of eye-catching, and the large investment held by insiders certainly brightens my view of the company. At times fast EPS growth is a sign the business has reached an inflection point; and I do like those. So to my mind DSC Investment is worth putting on your watchlist; after all, shareholders do well when the market underestimates fast growing companies. You should always think about risks though. Case in point, we've spotted 2 warning signs for DSC Investment you should be aware of.
Of course, you can do well (sometimes) buying stocks that are not growing earnings and do not have insiders buying shares. But as a growth investor I always like to check out companies that do have those features. You can access a free list of them here.
