LS Eco Energy's (KRX:229640) three-year total shareholder returns outpace the underlying earnings growth
LS Eco Energy Ltd. (KRX:229640) shareholders have seen the share price descend 19% over the month. But over the last three years the stock has shone bright like a diamond. Indeed, the share price is up a whopping 401% in that time. As long term investors the recent fall doesn't detract all that much from the longer term story. The share price action could signify that the business itself is dramatically improved, in that time.
Although LS Eco Energy has shed ₩83b from its market cap this week, let's take a look at its longer term fundamental trends and see if they've driven returns.

To paraphrase Benjamin Graham: Over the short term the market is a voting machine, but over the long term it's a weighing machine. One imperfect but simple way to consider how the market perception of a company has shifted is to compare the change in the earnings per share (EPS) with the share price movement.
LS Eco Energy became profitable within the last three years. Given the importance of this milestone, it's not overly surprising that the share price has increased strongly.

We know that LS Eco Energy has improved its bottom line over the last three years, but what does the future have in store? It might be well worthwhile taking a look at our free report on how its financial position has changed over time.
What About Dividends?
It is important to consider the total shareholder return, as well as the share price return, for any given stock. The TSR incorporates the value of any spin-offs or discounted capital raisings, along with any dividends, based on the assumption that the dividends are reinvested. Arguably, the TSR gives a more comprehensive picture of the return generated by a stock. In the case of LS Eco Energy, it has a TSR of 427% for the last 3 years. That exceeds its share price return that we previously mentioned. And there's no prize for guessing that the dividend payments largely explain the divergence!
A Different Perspective
We're pleased to report that LS Eco Energy shareholders have received a total shareholder return of 99% over one year. Of course, that includes the dividend. That gain is better than the annual TSR over five years, which is 41%. Therefore it seems like sentiment around the company has been positive lately. In the best case scenario, this may hint at some real business momentum, implying that now could be a great time to delve deeper. While it is well worth considering the different impacts that market conditions can have on the share price, there are other factors that are even more important. Take risks, for example - LS Eco Energy has 2 warning signs (and 1 which is potentially serious) we think you should know about.
