Market Cool On Jeil M&S Co., Ltd's (KOSDAQ:412540) Revenues Pushing Shares 25% Lower

To the annoyance of some shareholders, Jeil M&S Co., Ltd (KOSDAQ:412540) shares are down a considerable 25% in the last month, which continues a horrid run for the company. To make matters worse, the recent drop has wiped out a year's worth of gains with the share price now back where it started a year ago.

Even after such a large drop in price, it's still not a stretch to say that Jeil M&S' price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 0.5x right now seems quite "middle-of-the-road" compared to the Machinery industry in Korea, where the median P/S ratio is around 0.9x. Although, it's not wise to simply ignore the P/S without explanation as investors may be disregarding a distinct opportunity or a costly mistake.

How Jeil M&S Has Been Performing

Recent times have been quite advantageous for Jeil M&S as its revenue has been rising very briskly. Perhaps the market is expecting future revenue performance to taper off, which has kept the P/S from rising. If you like the company, you'd be hoping this isn't the case so that you could potentially pick up some stock while it's not quite in favour.

We don't have analyst forecasts, but you can see how recent trends are setting up the company for the future by checking out our free report on Jeil M&S' earnings, revenue and cash flow.

Do Revenue Forecasts Match The P/S Ratio?

Jeil M&S' P/S ratio would be typical for a company that's only expected to deliver moderate growth, and importantly, perform in line with the industry.

Taking a look back first, we see that the company grew revenue by an impressive 166% last year. The strong recent performance means it was also able to grow revenue by 295% in total over the last three years. Therefore, it's fair to say the revenue growth recently has been superb for the company.

Comparing that recent medium-term revenue trajectory with the industry's one-year growth forecast of 41% shows it's noticeably more attractive.

With this information, we find it interesting that Jeil M&S is trading at a fairly similar P/S compared to the industry. Apparently some shareholders believe the recent performance is at its limits and have been accepting lower selling prices.

What Does Jeil M&S' P/S Mean For Investors?

Jeil M&S' plummeting stock price has brought its P/S back to a similar region as the rest of the industry. While the price-to-sales ratio shouldn't be the defining factor in whether you buy a stock or not, it's quite a capable barometer of revenue expectations.

We didn't quite envision Jeil M&S' P/S sitting in line with the wider industry, considering the revenue growth over the last three-year is higher than the current industry outlook. When we see strong revenue with faster-than-industry growth, we can only assume potential risks are what might be placing pressure on the P/S ratio. While recent revenue trends over the past medium-term suggest that the risk of a price decline is low, investors appear to see the likelihood of revenue fluctuations in the future.

We don't want to rain on the parade too much, but we did also find 2 warning signs for Jeil M&S (1 shouldn't be ignored!) that you need to be mindful of.
