There's Reason For Concern Over BEENOS Inc.'s (TSE:3328) Massive 31% Price Jump

BEENOS Inc. (TSE:3328) shareholders have had their patience rewarded with a 31% share price jump in the last month. The last 30 days bring the annual gain to a very sharp 88%.

Although its price has surged higher, you could still be forgiven for feeling indifferent about BEENOS' P/E ratio of 13.6x, since the median price-to-earnings (or "P/E") ratio in Japan is also close to 13x. While this might not raise any eyebrows, if the P/E ratio is not justified investors could be missing out on a potential opportunity or ignoring looming disappointment.

BEENOS certainly has been doing a good job lately as it's been growing earnings more than most other companies. One possibility is that the P/E is moderate because investors think this strong earnings performance might be about to tail off. If not, then existing shareholders have reason to be feeling optimistic about the future direction of the share price.

Is There Some Growth For BEENOS?

The only time you'd be comfortable seeing a P/E like BEENOS' is when the company's growth is tracking the market closely.

If we review the last year of earnings growth, the company posted a terrific increase of 182%. Pleasingly, EPS has also lifted 399% in aggregate from three years ago, thanks to the last 12 months of growth. So we can start by confirming that the company has done a great job of growing earnings over that time.

Looking ahead now, EPS is anticipated to climb by 1.8% per annum during the coming three years according to the sole analyst following the company. Meanwhile, the rest of the market is forecast to expand by 9.5% per annum, which is noticeably more attractive.

With this information, we find it interesting that BEENOS is trading at a fairly similar P/E to the market. Apparently many investors in the company are less bearish than analysts indicate and aren't willing to let go of their stock right now. Maintaining these prices will be difficult to achieve as this level of earnings growth is likely to weigh down the shares eventually.

What We Can Learn From BEENOS' P/E?

BEENOS appears to be back in favour with a solid price jump getting its P/E back in line with most other companies. While the price-to-earnings ratio shouldn't be the defining factor in whether you buy a stock or not, it's quite a capable barometer of earnings expectations.

We've established that BEENOS currently trades on a higher than expected P/E since its forecast growth is lower than the wider market. Right now we are uncomfortable with the P/E as the predicted future earnings aren't likely to support a more positive sentiment for long. Unless these conditions improve, it's challenging to accept these prices as being reasonable.

And what about other risks? Every company has them, and we've spotted 1 warning sign for BEENOS you should know about.
