What Does The Institutional Ownership Tell Us About Papyless?

Many institutions measure their performance against an index that approximates the local market. So they usually pay more attention to companies that are included in major indices.

As you can see, institutional investors have a fair amount of stake in Papyless. This can indicate that the company has a certain degree of credibility in the investment community. However, it is best to be wary of relying on the supposed validation that comes with institutional investors. They too, get it wrong sometimes. It is not uncommon to see a big share price drop if two large institutional investors try to sell out of a stock at the same time. We note that hedge funds don't have a meaningful investment in Papyless. Mikio Amaya is currently the largest shareholder, with 35% of shares outstanding. With 11% and 10.0% of the shares outstanding respectively, Teijin Limited and Andbanc Asset Management Luxembourg SA are the second and third largest shareholders. In addition, we found that Yasuko Matsui, the CEO has 2.1% of the shares allocated to their name.

A more detailed study of the shareholder registry showed us that 3 of the top shareholders have a considerable amount of ownership in the company, via their 55% stake.

While it makes sense to study institutional ownership data for a company, it also makes sense to study analyst sentiments to know which way the wind is blowing. Our information suggests that there isn't any analyst coverage of the stock, so it is probably little known.

Insider Ownership Of Papyless

The definition of an insider can differ slightly between different countries, but members of the board of directors always count. The company management answer to the board and the latter should represent the interests of shareholders. Notably, sometimes top-level managers are on the board themselves.

Most consider insider ownership a positive because it can indicate the board is well aligned with other shareholders. However, on some occasions too much power is concentrated within this group.

It seems insiders own a significant proportion of Papyless Co., Ltd.. It has a market capitalization of just JP¥20b, and insiders have JP¥7.8b worth of shares in their own names. While it's hard to draw any broad stroke conclusions, it is worth noting as an area for further research.

We can see that public companies hold 11% of the Papyless shares on issue. It's hard to say for sure but this suggests they have entwined business interests. This might be a strategic stake, so it's worth watching this space for changes in ownership.
