Nomura Real Estate Holdings' (TSE:3231) investors will be pleased with their stellar 204% return over the last five years

The worst result, after buying shares in a company (assuming no leverage), would be if you lose all the money you put in. But when you pick a company that is really flourishing, you can make more than 100%. For example, the Nomura Real Estate Holdings, Inc. (TSE:3231) share price has soared 153% in the last half decade. Most would be very happy with that. It's also good to see the share price up 12% over the last quarter. But this could be related to the strong market, which is up 11% in the last three months.

What About Dividends?

When looking at investment returns, it is important to consider the difference between total shareholder return (TSR) and share price return. Whereas the share price return only reflects the change in the share price, the TSR includes the value of dividends (assuming they were reinvested) and the benefit of any discounted capital raising or spin-off. Arguably, the TSR gives a more comprehensive picture of the return generated by a stock. We note that for Nomura Real Estate Holdings the TSR over the last 5 years was 204%, which is better than the share price return mentioned above.
