Market Might Still Lack Some Conviction On Karadanote, Inc. (TSE:4014) Even After 26% Share Price Boost

Karadanote, Inc. (TSE:4014) shares have had a really impressive month, gaining 26% after a shaky period beforehand. Not all shareholders will be feeling jubilant, since the share price is still down a very disappointing 28% in the last twelve months.

In spite of the firm bounce in price, it's still not a stretch to say that Karadanote's price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 1.8x right now seems quite "middle-of-the-road" compared to the Interactive Media and Services industry in Japan, seeing as it matches the P/S ratio of the wider industry. While this might not raise any eyebrows, if the P/S ratio is not justified investors could be missing out on a potential opportunity or ignoring looming disappointment.

What Does Karadanote's Recent Performance Look Like?

Karadanote certainly has been doing a great job lately as it's been growing its revenue at a really rapid pace. The P/S is probably moderate because investors think this strong revenue growth might not be enough to outperform the broader industry in the near future. If you like the company, you'd be hoping this isn't the case so that you could potentially pick up some stock while it's not quite in favour.

Is There Some Revenue Growth Forecasted For Karadanote?

The only time you'd be comfortable seeing a P/S like Karadanote's is when the company's growth is tracking the industry closely.

If we review the last year of revenue growth, the company posted a terrific increase of 31%. The latest three year period has also seen an excellent 140% overall rise in revenue, aided by its short-term performance. Accordingly, shareholders would have definitely welcomed those medium-term rates of revenue growth.

This is in contrast to the rest of the industry, which is expected to grow by 11% over the next year, materially lower than the company's recent medium-term annualised growth rates.

In light of this, it's curious that Karadanote's P/S sits in line with the majority of other companies. It may be that most investors are not convinced the company can maintain its recent growth rates.

What We Can Learn From Karadanote's P/S?

Karadanote appears to be back in favour with a solid price jump bringing its P/S back in line with other companies in the industry Using the price-to-sales ratio alone to determine if you should sell your stock isn't sensible, however it can be a practical guide to the company's future prospects.

We've established that Karadanote currently trades on a lower than expected P/S since its recent three-year growth is higher than the wider industry forecast. There could be some unobserved threats to revenue preventing the P/S ratio from matching this positive performance. While recent revenue trends over the past medium-term suggest that the risk of a price decline is low, investors appear to see the likelihood of revenue fluctuations in the future.
