Premium Group (TSE:7199) Is Paying Out A Larger Dividend Than Last Year
Premium Group Co., Ltd.'s (TSE:7199) dividend will be increasing from last year's payment of the same period to ¥27.00 on 5th of December. Despite this raise, the dividend yield of 2.4% is only a modest boost to shareholder returns.
Premium Group's Projected Earnings Seem Likely To Cover Future Distributions
While yield is important, another factor to consider about a company's dividend is whether the current payout levels are feasible. Based on the last payment, Premium Group was earning enough to cover the dividend, but free cash flows weren't positive. In general, we consider cash flow to be more important than earnings, so we would be cautious about relying on the sustainability of this dividend.
Looking forward, earnings per share is forecast to rise by 22.5% over the next year. If the dividend continues along recent trends, we estimate the payout ratio will be 36%, which is in the range that makes us comfortable with the sustainability of the dividend.

Premium Group Is Still Building Its Track Record
The dividend's track record has been pretty solid, but with only 7 years of history we want to see a few more years of history before making any solid conclusions. Since 2018, the dividend has gone from ¥14.17 total annually to ¥54.00. This works out to be a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 21% a year over that time. We're not overly excited about the relatively short history of dividend payments, however the dividend is growing at a nice rate and we might take a closer look.
The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow
Some investors will be chomping at the bit to buy some of the company's stock based on its dividend history. Premium Group has impressed us by growing EPS at 27% per year over the past five years. Earnings have been growing rapidly, and with a low payout ratio we think that the company could turn out to be a great dividend stock.
Our Thoughts On Premium Group's Dividend
In summary, while it's always good to see the dividend being raised, we don't think Premium Group's payments are rock solid. While Premium Group is earning enough to cover the payments, the cash flows are lacking. Overall, we don't think this company has the makings of a good income stock.
It's important to note that companies having a consistent dividend policy will generate greater investor confidence than those having an erratic one. Meanwhile, despite the importance of dividend payments, they are not the only factors our readers should know when assessing a company.
