First Juken's Payment Has Solid Earnings Coverage
Impressive dividend yields are good, but this doesn't matter much if the payments can't be sustained. Before making this announcement, First Juken was easily earning enough to cover the dividend. As a result, a large proportion of what it earned was being reinvested back into the business.
Unless the company can turn things around, EPS could fall by 11.8% over the next year. If the dividend continues along the path it has been on recently, we estimate the payout ratio could be 48%, which is definitely feasible to continue.
First Juken Is Still Building Its Track Record
The dividend's track record has been pretty solid, but with only 6 years of history we want to see a few more years of history before making any solid conclusions. There hasn't been much of a change in the dividend over the last 6 years. It's good to see at least some dividend growth. Yet with a relatively short dividend paying history, we wouldn't want to depend on this dividend too heavily.
Dividend Growth Potential Is Shaky
The company's investors will be pleased to have been receiving dividend income for some time. However, things aren't all that rosy. Earnings per share has been sinking by 12% over the last five years. Dividend payments are likely to come under some pressure unless EPS can pull out of the nosedive it is in.
Our Thoughts On First Juken's Dividend
In summary, while it's good to see that the dividend hasn't been cut, we are a bit cautious about First Juken's payments, as there could be some issues with sustaining them into the future. The payments haven't been particularly stable and we don't see huge growth potential, but with the dividend well covered by cash flows it could prove to be reliable over the short term. We don't think First Juken is a great stock to add to your portfolio if income is your focus.
Companies possessing a stable dividend policy will likely enjoy greater investor interest than those suffering from a more inconsistent approach. However, there are other things to consider for investors when analysing stock performance.
