Kurita Water Industries (TSE:6370) Is Increasing Its Dividend To ¥56.00

Simply Wall St

The board of Kurita Water Industries Ltd. (TSE:6370) has announced that it will be paying its dividend of ¥56.00 on the 28th of November, an increased payment from last year's comparable dividend. This takes the annual payment to 2.0% of the current stock price, which is about average for the industry.

Kurita Water Industries' Projected Earnings Seem Likely To Cover Future Distributions

We like to see a healthy dividend yield, but that is only helpful to us if the payment can continue. Prior to this announcement, Kurita Water Industries' dividend was comfortably covered by both cash flow and earnings. This indicates that quite a large proportion of earnings is being invested back into the business.

Looking forward, earnings per share is forecast to rise by 15.5% over the next year. If the dividend continues on this path, the payout ratio could be 51% by next year, which we think can be pretty sustainable going forward.

Kurita Water Industries Has A Solid Track Record

Even over a long history of paying dividends, the company's distributions have been remarkably stable. Since 2015, the dividend has gone from ¥46.00 total annually to ¥112.00. This implies that the company grew its distributions at a yearly rate of about 9.3% over that duration. The dividend has been growing very nicely for a number of years, and has given its shareholders some nice income in their portfolios.

The Dividend's Growth Prospects Are Limited

Investors could be attracted to the stock based on the quality of its payment history. Earnings per share has been crawling upwards at 2.5% per year. Kurita Water Industries is struggling to find viable investments, so it is returning more to shareholders. This isn't bad in itself, but unless earnings growth pick up we wouldn't expect dividends to grow either.

Kurita Water Industries Looks Like A Great Dividend Stock

Overall, a dividend increase is always good, and we think that Kurita Water Industries is a strong income stock thanks to its track record and growing earnings. Distributions are quite easily covered by earnings, which are also being converted to cash flows. All of these factors considered, we think this has solid potential as a dividend stock.

It's important to note that companies having a consistent dividend policy will generate greater investor confidence than those having an erratic one. Still, investors need to consider a host of other factors, apart from dividend payments, when analysing a company.
