Shareholders Can Be Confident That Aisan Industry's (TSE:7283) Earnings Are High Quality
Aisan Industry Co., Ltd.'s (TSE:7283) earnings announcement last week was disappointing for investors, despite the decent profit numbers. We did some digging and actually think they are being unnecessarily pessimistic.
Our free stock report includes 1 warning sign investors should be aware of before investing in Aisan Industry. Read for free now.Zooming In On Aisan Industry's Earnings
One key financial ratio used to measure how well a company converts its profit to free cash flow (FCF) is the accrual ratio. The accrual ratio subtracts the FCF from the profit for a given period, and divides the result by the average operating assets of the company over that time. This ratio tells us how much of a company's profit is not backed by free cashflow.
That means a negative accrual ratio is a good thing, because it shows that the company is bringing in more free cash flow than its profit would suggest. While having an accrual ratio above zero is of little concern, we do think it's worth noting when a company has a relatively high accrual ratio. To quote a 2014 paper by Lewellen and Resutek, "firms with higher accruals tend to be less profitable in the future".
Aisan Industry has an accrual ratio of -0.13 for the year to March 2025. That implies it has good cash conversion, and implies that its free cash flow solidly exceeded its profit last year. To wit, it produced free cash flow of JP¥28b during the period, dwarfing its reported profit of JP¥13.2b. Aisan Industry's free cash flow improved over the last year, which is generally good to see.
