Futaba Industrial (TSE:7241) Is Due To Pay A Dividend Of ¥20.00

Futaba Industrial Co., Ltd. (TSE:7241) has announced that it will pay a dividend of ¥20.00 per share on the 5th of June. The dividend yield of 4.0% is still a nice boost to shareholder returns, despite the cut.

Futaba Industrial's Payment Could Potentially Have Solid Earnings Coverage

We like to see robust dividend yields, but that doesn't matter if the payment isn't sustainable. However, Futaba Industrial's earnings easily cover the dividend. As a result, a large proportion of what it earned was being reinvested back into the business.

The next year is set to see EPS grow by 14.1%. Assuming the dividend continues along recent trends, we think the payout ratio could be 35% by next year, which is in a pretty sustainable range.

Futaba Industrial Has A Solid Track Record

The company has a sustained record of paying dividends with very little fluctuation. Since 2015, the annual payment back then was ¥3.00, compared to the most recent full-year payment of ¥40.00. This means that it has been growing its distributions at 30% per annum over that time. So, dividends have been growing pretty quickly, and even more impressively, they haven't experienced any notable falls during this period.

The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow

Some investors will be chomping at the bit to buy some of the company's stock based on its dividend history. It's encouraging to see that Futaba Industrial has been growing its earnings per share at 24% a year over the past five years. Rapid earnings growth and a low payout ratio suggest this company has been effectively reinvesting in its business. Should that continue, this company could have a bright future.

We Really Like Futaba Industrial's Dividend

In general, we don't like to see the dividend being cut, especially when the company has such high potential like Futaba Industrial does. Reducing the amount it is paying as a dividend can protect the company's balance sheet, keeping the dividend sustainable for longer. All in all, this checks a lot of the boxes we look for when choosing an income stock.

Market movements attest to how highly valued a consistent dividend policy is compared to one which is more unpredictable. Meanwhile, despite the importance of dividend payments, they are not the only factors our readers should know when assessing a company.
