Investors Still Aren't Entirely Convinced By Innovatec S.p.A.'s (BIT:INC) Revenues Despite 25% Price Jump
Innovatec S.p.A. (BIT:INC) shareholders have had their patience rewarded with a 25% share price jump in the last month. Unfortunately, the gains of the last month did little to right the losses of the last year with the stock still down 22% over that time.
Even after such a large jump in price, there still wouldn't be many who think Innovatec's price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 0.4x is worth a mention when the median P/S in Italy's Electrical industry is similar at about 0.6x. While this might not raise any eyebrows, if the P/S ratio is not justified investors could be missing out on a potential opportunity or ignoring looming disappointment.

What Does Innovatec's Recent Performance Look Like?
With revenue growth that's superior to most other companies of late, Innovatec has been doing relatively well. Perhaps the market is expecting this level of performance to taper off, keeping the P/S from soaring. If the company manages to stay the course, then investors should be rewarded with a share price that matches its revenue figures.

In order to justify its P/S ratio, Innovatec would need to produce growth that's similar to the industry.
Taking a look back first, we see that the company managed to grow revenues by a handy 9.6% last year. The latest three year period has also seen an excellent 215% overall rise in revenue, aided somewhat by its short-term performance. Accordingly, shareholders would have definitely welcomed those medium-term rates of revenue growth.
Turning to the outlook, the next three years should generate growth of 16% each year as estimated by the sole analyst watching the company. With the industry only predicted to deliver 9.9% per annum, the company is positioned for a stronger revenue result.
With this information, we find it interesting that Innovatec is trading at a fairly similar P/S compared to the industry. Apparently some shareholders are skeptical of the forecasts and have been accepting lower selling prices.
The Bottom Line On Innovatec's P/S
Innovatec's stock has a lot of momentum behind it lately, which has brought its P/S level with the rest of the industry. Using the price-to-sales ratio alone to determine if you should sell your stock isn't sensible, however it can be a practical guide to the company's future prospects.
Looking at Innovatec's analyst forecasts revealed that its superior revenue outlook isn't giving the boost to its P/S that we would've expected. There could be some risks that the market is pricing in, which is preventing the P/S ratio from matching the positive outlook. At least the risk of a price drop looks to be subdued, but investors seem to think future revenue could see some volatility.
