Celebrations may be in order for Avio S.p.A. (BIT:AVIO) shareholders, with the analysts delivering a significant upgrade to their statutory estimates for the company. The analysts greatly increased their revenue estimates, suggesting a stark improvement in business fundamentals. Investor sentiment seems to be improving too, with the share price up 7.4% to €13.66 over the past 7 days. Could this big upgrade push the stock even higher?

Following the latest upgrade, Avio's five analysts currently expect revenues in 2021 to be €357m, approximately in line with the last 12 months. Per-share earnings are expected to surge 26% to €0.69. Prior to this update, the analysts had been forecasting revenues of €321m and earnings per share (EPS) of €0.49 in 2021. There has definitely been an improvement in perception recently, with the analysts substantially increasing both their earnings and revenue estimates.

Another way we can view these estimates is in the context of the bigger picture, such as how the forecasts stack up against past performance, and whether forecasts are more or less bullish relative to other companies in the industry. It's also worth noting that the years of declining sales look to have come to an end, with the forecast for flat revenues to the end of 2021. Historically, Avio's sales have shrunk approximately 6.0% annually over the past three years. By contrast, our data suggests that other companies (with analyst coverage) in a similar industry are forecast to see their revenue grow 6.7% per year. Although Avio's revenues are expected to improve, it seems that it is still expected to grow slower than the wider industry.

The Bottom Line

The most important thing to take away from this upgrade is that analysts upgraded their earnings per share estimates for this year, expecting improving business conditions. Pleasantly, analysts also upgraded their revenue estimates, and their forecasts suggest the business is expected to grow slower than the wider market. With a serious upgrade to expectations, it might be time to take another look at Avio.

With that said, the long-term trajectory of the company's earnings is a lot more important than next year. At Simply Wall St, we have a full range of analyst estimates for Avio going out to 2025, and you can see them free on our platform here..
