Have PTC India Limited (NSE:PTC) Insiders Been Selling Their Stock?

We note that the PTC India Limited (NSE:PTC) Chairman & MD, Deepak Amitabh, recently sold ₹1.7m worth of stock for ₹104 per share. It wasn't a huge sale, but it did reduce their holding by 20%. This does not instill confidence.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At India

Notably, that recent sale by Deepak Amitabh is the biggest insider sale of India shares that we've seen in the last year. That means that an insider was selling shares at around the current price of ₹103. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. In this case, the big sale took place at around the current price, so it's not too bad (but it's still not a positive).

Insider Ownership

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. From what we can see in our data, insiders own only about ₹15m worth of India shares. But they may have an indirect interest through a corporate structure that we haven't picked up on. We might be missing something but that seems like very low insider ownership.

What Might The Insider Transactions At India Tell Us?

An insider hasn't bought India stock in the last three months, but there was some selling. And even if we look at the last year, we didn't see any purchases. On the plus side, India makes money, and is growing profits. While insiders do own shares, they don't own a heap, and they have been selling. So we'd only buy after careful consideration. While we like knowing what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision.
