Trigyn Technologies Limited (NSE:TRIGYN) shares have continued their recent momentum with a 33% gain in the last month alone. The last 30 days bring the annual gain to a very sharp 44%.

In spite of the firm bounce in price, Trigyn Technologies may still be sending buy signals at present with its price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 2.6x, considering almost half of all companies in the IT industry in India have P/S ratios greater than 4.2x and even P/S higher than 9x aren't out of the ordinary. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/S at face value as there may be an explanation why it's limited.

How Trigyn Technologies Has Been Performing

For instance, Trigyn Technologies' receding revenue in recent times would have to be some food for thought. One possibility is that the P/S is low because investors think the company won't do enough to avoid underperforming the broader industry in the near future. If you like the company, you'd be hoping this isn't the case so that you could potentially pick up some stock while it's out of favour.

Although there are no analyst estimates available for Trigyn Technologies, take a look at this free data-rich visualisation to see how the company stacks up on earnings, revenue and cash flow.

How Is Trigyn Technologies' Revenue Growth Trending?

In order to justify its P/S ratio, Trigyn Technologies would need to produce sluggish growth that's trailing the industry.

In reviewing the last year of financials, we were disheartened to see the company's revenues fell to the tune of 86%. As a result, revenue from three years ago have also fallen 82% overall. Accordingly, shareholders would have felt downbeat about the medium-term rates of revenue growth.

In contrast to the company, the rest of the industry is expected to grow by 6.2% over the next year, which really puts the company's recent medium-term revenue decline into perspective.

With this in mind, we understand why Trigyn Technologies' P/S is lower than most of its industry peers. However, we think shrinking revenues are unlikely to lead to a stable P/S over the longer term, which could set up shareholders for future disappointment. There's potential for the P/S to fall to even lower levels if the company doesn't improve its top-line growth.

The Bottom Line On Trigyn Technologies' P/S

Despite Trigyn Technologies' share price climbing recently, its P/S still lags most other companies. It's argued the price-to-sales ratio is an inferior measure of value within certain industries, but it can be a powerful business sentiment indicator.

As we suspected, our examination of Trigyn Technologies revealed its shrinking revenue over the medium-term is contributing to its low P/S, given the industry is set to grow. Right now shareholders are accepting the low P/S as they concede future revenue probably won't provide any pleasant surprises either. Unless the recent medium-term conditions improve, they will continue to form a barrier for the share price around these levels.
