Surya Roshni's (NSE:SURYAROSNI) Shareholders Will Receive A Bigger Dividend Than Last Year

The board of Surya Roshni Limited (NSE:SURYAROSNI) has announced that it will be paying its dividend of ₹3.00 on the 18th of October, an increased payment from last year's comparable dividend. This takes the annual payment to 1.6% of the current stock price, which unfortunately is below what the industry is paying.

Surya Roshni's Payment Could Potentially Have Solid Earnings Coverage

If it is predictable over a long period, even low dividend yields can be attractive. However, prior to this announcement, Surya Roshni's dividend was comfortably covered by both cash flow and earnings. This means that most of what the business earns is being used to help it grow.

Over the next year, EPS is forecast to expand by 37.2%. Assuming the dividend continues along recent trends, we think the payout ratio could be 38% by next year, which is in a pretty sustainable range.

Surya Roshni Has A Solid Track Record

The company has a sustained record of paying dividends with very little fluctuation. Since 2015, the annual payment back then was ₹0.25, compared to the most recent full-year payment of ₹4.25. This implies that the company grew its distributions at a yearly rate of about 33% over that duration. Rapidly growing dividends for a long time is a very valuable feature for an income stock.

The Dividend Looks Likely To Grow

Some investors will be chomping at the bit to buy some of the company's stock based on its dividend history. It's encouraging to see that Surya Roshni has been growing its earnings per share at 28% a year over the past five years. Rapid earnings growth and a low payout ratio suggest this company has been effectively reinvesting in its business. Should that continue, this company could have a bright future.

We Really Like Surya Roshni's Dividend

In summary, it is always positive to see the dividend being increased, and we are particularly pleased with its overall sustainability. Distributions are quite easily covered by earnings, which are also being converted to cash flows. Taking this all into consideration, this looks like it could be a good dividend opportunity.

It's important to note that companies having a consistent dividend policy will generate greater investor confidence than those having an erratic one. Still, investors need to consider a host of other factors, apart from dividend payments, when analysing a company.
