Excel Industries Drops To ₹994, Yet Insiders May Have Sold Too Early
Despite the fact that Excel Industries Limited's (NSE:EXCELINDUS) value has dropped 11% in the last week insiders who sold ₹31m worth of stock in the past 12 months have had less success. Given that the average selling price of ₹1,281 is still lower than the current share price, insiders would probably have been better off keeping their shares.
While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.
The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Excel Industries
In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the Executive Chairman, Ashwin Shroff, sold ₹31m worth of shares at a price of ₹1,281 per share. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. It's of some comfort that this sale was conducted at a price well above the current share price, which is ₹994. So it may not shed much light on insider confidence at current levels. Ashwin Shroff was the only individual insider to sell over the last year.

Does Excel Industries Boast High Insider Ownership?
I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Insiders own 8.3% of Excel Industries shares, worth about ₹1.0b. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.
So What Do The Excel Industries Insider Transactions Indicate?
The fact that there have been no Excel Industries insider transactions recently certainly doesn't bother us. It's heartening that insiders own plenty of stock, but we'd like to see more insider buying, since the last year of Excel Industries insider transactions don't fill us with confidence. While it's good to be aware of what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision. To help with this, we've discovered 2 warning signs (1 is concerning!) that you ought to be aware of before buying any shares in Excel Industries.
