Some have more dollars than sense, they say, so even companies that have no revenue, no profit, and a record of falling short, can easily find investors. Unfortunately, high risk investments often have little probability of ever paying off, and many investors pay a price to learn their lesson.

So if you're like me, you might be more interested in profitable, growing companies, like Max Financial Services (NSE:MFSL). While profit is not necessarily a social good, it's easy to admire a business that can consistently produce it. Loss-making companies are always racing against time to reach financial sustainability, but time is often a friend of the profitable company, especially if it is growing.

How Fast Is Max Financial Services Growing?

If a company can keep growing earnings per share (EPS) long enough, its share price will eventually follow. It's no surprise, then, that I like to invest in companies with EPS growth. Max Financial Services managed to grow EPS by 11% per year, over three years. That's a good rate of growth, if it can be sustained.

I like to see top-line growth as an indication that growth is sustainable, and I look for a high earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) margin to point to a competitive moat (though some companies with low margins also have moats). I note that Max Financial Services's revenue from operations was lower than its revenue in the last twelve months, so that could distort my analysis of its margins. While we note Max Financial Services's EBIT margins were flat over the last year, revenue grew by a solid 72% to ₹313b. That's a real positive.

Of course the knack is to find stocks that have their best days in the future, not in the past. You could base your opinion on past performance, of course, but you may also want to check this interactive graph of professional analyst EPS forecasts for Max Financial Services.

Are Max Financial Services Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

I like company leaders to have some skin in the game, so to speak, because it increases alignment of incentives between the people running the business, and its true owners. As a result, I'm encouraged by the fact that insiders own Max Financial Services shares worth a considerable sum. Given insiders own a small fortune of shares, currently valued at ₹4.0b, they have plenty of motivation to push the business to succeed. This should keep them focused on creating long term value for shareholders.

Does Max Financial Services Deserve A Spot On Your Watchlist?

As I already mentioned, Max Financial Services is a growing business, which is what I like to see. Just as polish makes silverware pop, the high level of insider ownership enhances my enthusiasm for this growth. The combination sparks joy for me, so I'd consider keeping the company on a watchlist. We don't want to rain on the parade too much, but we did also find 1 warning sign for Max Financial Services that you need to be mindful of.
