The latest analyst coverage could presage a bad day for Rajesh Exports Limited (NSE:RAJESHEXPO), with the covering analyst making across-the-board cuts to their statutory estimates that might leave shareholders a little shell-shocked. Revenue and earnings per share (EPS) forecasts were both revised downwards, with the analyst seeing grey clouds on the horizon.

After the downgrade, the consensus from Rajesh Exports' single analyst is for revenues of ₹2.0t in 2024, which would reflect a sizeable 33% decline in sales compared to the last year of performance. Statutory earnings per share are presumed to accumulate 9.7% to ₹27.23. Prior to this update, the analyst had been forecasting revenues of ₹3.6t and earnings per share (EPS) of ₹88.61 in 2024. Indeed, we can see that the analyst is a lot more bearish about Rajesh Exports' prospects, administering a sizeable cut to revenue estimates and slashing their EPS estimates to boot.

The consensus price target fell 36% to ₹700, with the weaker earnings outlook clearly leading analyst valuation estimates.

Another way we can view these estimates is in the context of the bigger picture, such as how the forecasts stack up against past performance, and whether forecasts are more or less bullish relative to other companies in the industry. These estimates imply that sales are expected to slow, with a forecast annualised revenue decline of 33% by the end of 2024. This indicates a significant reduction from annual growth of 14% over the last five years. Compare this with our data, which suggests that other companies in the same industry are, in aggregate, expected to see their revenue grow 14% per year. So although its revenues are forecast to shrink, this cloud does not come with a silver lining - Rajesh Exports is expected to lag the wider industry.

The Bottom Line

The most important thing to take away is that the analyst cut their earnings per share estimates, expecting a clear decline in business conditions. Unfortunately the analyst also downgraded their revenue estimates, and industry data suggests that Rajesh Exports' revenues are expected to grow slower than the wider market. With a serious cut to this year's expectations and a falling price target, we wouldn't be surprised if investors were becoming wary of Rajesh Exports.

Even so, the longer term trajectory of the business is much more important for the value creation of shareholders. At least one analyst has provided forecasts out to 2026, which can be seen for free on our platform here.
